November 2019: Rotation student Josh Nielsen and PREP student Pedro Martinez Barbosa presented their work at the BBSP poster session. Josh deep sequenced several obscure flaviviruses, which is a first step towards building tools for molecular virology studies. Pedro is studying rubella virus and showed that it is inhibited by IFN-b and IFN-L, enabling future studies of the immune mechanisms that control congenital infections.

July 2019: Welcome new lab members Ciara Darden and Pedro Martinez Barbosa! Ciara is a high school student in the Young Innovators Program (UNC School of Pharmacy). Pedro is a postbac student joining us through UNC PREP. We’re glad you’re here!

May 2019: Congratulations to Claire Thefaine on her graduation from UNC! We are proud of the work Claire did with Becca, studying the effects of interferon signaling on Zika virus congenital infection in mice. We wish Claire all the best as a postbac at NIH!

April 2019: Paper accepted!
